At the meeting, project leader Anita Zariņa (University of Latvia) participated on behalf of the Water Cultures project, presenting its approach, which develops a transformative perspective on human–water relations.
Discussions highlighted the need for a more integrated approach to incorporating water-related issues into different policy sectors, particularly emphasizing the interconnections between water and forestry. Participants identified several key areas for collaboration, including the evaluation of nature-based solutions, the development of modelling approaches, and improving communication with the public and policymakers.
As a result of the meeting, participants proposed establishing an ongoing collaboration community in the water research field, serving as a platform for regular knowledge exchange and joint initiatives. Future meetings are planned on a regular basis, with the next meeting expected in autumn 2026, focusing on nature-based solutions.
Participation in this meeting strengthens collaboration between projects and supports the transfer of knowledge between research and policy, which is essential for sustainable water resource management in Latvia.
