On 24–26 September, the first conference of the Nordic Environmental Ethics Network (NEEN) was held in Turku, Finland, hosted by the University of Turku and the Turku Centre for Environmental Ethics. NEEN is a new interdisciplinary initiative that connects researchers working on environmental ethics across the Nordic and Baltic regions.

The programme featured panel discussions and 18 presentations spanning a wide range of themes, including animal and wildlife ethics, environmental justice, emerging technologies, and the ethics of outer space exploration. Plenary lectures were delivered by Stephen Gardiner (University of Washington) and Elisa Aaltola (University of Turku).

Water Cultures researcher Anne Sauka is one of NEEN’s co-founders and currently serves as a network coordinator. The network grew out of collaboration formed within the Nordic Summer University working group “Nordic Environmental Ethics” (2021–2024).

The network has agreed that the next NEEN annual conference will take place in Riga in 2026, hosted by the University of Latvia, with Water Cultures as one of the organizing partners.
